Beacon Hill
Located northeast of the downtown core of Ottawa, Beacon Hill is a well-established suburb that gets its name from the idea that the light from a lighthouse on the Ottawa River could be seen at its highest point. Although the lighthouse no longer stands, “The Beaks” or “The Hills” as locals refer to it, still offers a view of the original foundation from its many bike paths that travel along the river.
This deep-rooted community is primarily residential, yet boasts beautiful parks and woodlands since it backs onto Ottawa’s greenbelt. Beacon Hill is the epitome of suburban living with excellent access to the outdoors and the variety of recreational offerings that presents. Escarpments and rolling hills provide beautiful scenery, but in winter there are three incredible tobogganing hills to thrill children of all ages!
Ideal for families with children, this neighbourhood features six elementary schools with offerings in English, French and French Immersion, as well as Catholic school choices. There are also three high schools to cater to older children. With plenty of amenities, easy access to public transportation and Hwy 417 the direct route to downtown Ottawa, you are sure to love all this area of town has to offer.
